Biography

The Wanted release their third studio album, Word Of Mouth on 4 November. The album promises to be a combination of classic pop as well as exploring new ground. Word Of Mouth arguably features the most hit singles on any one pop album this year, including massive hit singles Chasing The Sun, I ... More Found You, Walks Like Rihanna and We Own The Night.

On the album, Tom Parker said: “It's taken us two years to make this album and now that it's finally finished we are all really proud of the time and effort, not just that we put in to it but all the writers and the label too. We think it's our strongest album to date. We can't wait for our fans to hear it. They've been really patient but hopefully they'll think it's worth the wait!”

The band release new single Show Me Love (America) on 27 October. The Fraser T Smith produced track showcases the band at their vocal best whilst also building on the band’s musicality with a 14-piece string orchestra. Show less

Best known for winning our hearts as Wonder Woman, Lynda Carter is an accomplished singer who has performed to rave reviews before sell-out crowds around the world. In addition to her long acting career, Lynda has the distinction of producing and starring in five highly rated network television specials, several of which were Emmy-nominated. She has appeared onstage with many of the world's most popular singers, including Ray Charles, Tom Jones, Kenny Rogers, Bob Hope, George Benson, and Ben Vereen.

Lynda made her professional singing debut at fourteen in Tempe, Arizona, and has studied classical dance and piano. In 1973, she won the Miss World-U.S.A. title and shortly thereafter outdistanced hundreds of other actresses for the part of "Wonder Woman," a character she infused with such depth and humor that it has become one of the most indelible characters in TV history. Her fame led to her becoming the “face” of Maybelline Cosmetics, and she remained Maybelline’s top model for over a decade. But her roots remained with her music.

“Singing is in my soul”, says Lynda. “I was on the road performing in my teens and traveled from the Catskills to Las Vegas, and from San Francisco to the saloons in Texas”. An engaging storyteller, she takes her audience on a journey where her life story and her music intertwine.

Though Lynda continued to act in films and television, she left the road when she had children to raise her young family. She returned to live performing in 2006, appearing on the London stage with an acclaimed star turn in “Chicago.” In 2007, Lynda started touring again in venues across the country with her band of Nashville all stars.

Lynda has just returned from sold out appearances at Jazz at Lincoln Center in NY and the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. Her CD, “At Last” was released on June 9th and dropped at #6 on the Billboard charts. Her new CD will be released this April and she will be touring the West Coast in March and April. She recently served as Grand Marshall for the DC AIDS Walk and is a supporter of the Whitman Walker Clinic as well as many other charitable organizations.

Born June Deniece Chandler (birthdate June 3, 1950) known by her stage name, Deniece Williams is an American Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter and record producer who achieved success in the 1970s and 1980s. Ms. Williams, whose music has been influenced by Soul and Funk, is known for her hits such as “Free,” “Let’s Hear It for the Boy,” “It’s Gonna Take a Miracle,” and for her many vocal duets with Johnny Mathis.

In 1984, Deniece released the album Let’s Hear It for the Boy, in which the title track reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was featured on the soundtrack to Footloose. The song would prove to be the biggest pop hit of her career – and the last. She also contributed vocals, along with Maurice White, to the song “And Then” from Weather Report’s album Mr. Gone released in 1982. She continued releasing albums during the 1980s such as Hot On The Trail (1986), Water Under The Bridge (1987), and As Good As It Gets (1988), which featured her last Top Ten hit to date, “I Can’t Wait”, written by Skylark.

Although Deniece had recorded one inspirational song on almost each of her albums, it was in 1980 that her musical career path began change toward one of her favorite things, Gospel music. She joined with friends Phillip Bailey (Earth, Wind and Fire fame), Billy Davis and Marilyn McCoo to present a gospel show at a popular Los Angeles club named The Roxy. The show was called “Jesus At the Roxy”. Deniece felt strongly about it saying, “God did something miraculous. Over three hundred people were saved”, as reported in an interview with Gospel Today Magazine. After that, both Bailey and Williams decided to pursue careers in Christian music.

Deniece continues to work on countless projects and is still quite active in the music industry today. She has an incredible five-octave range and distinctive soprano voice. Her vocal range was also pointed out by The New York Times, “Miss Williams mounted a spectacular vocal display in which her penetrating, feline soprano soared effortlessly to E flat above high C, and she worked various vowel sounds into prolonged feats of vocal gymnastics”.

After breaking through in the late ‘90s with his Top 20 single “Barely Breathing,” Duncan Sheik spent much of the subsequent decade taking a breather from the usual rock singer/songwriter rituals. His focus was on albums that broke with pop music conventions and, additionally, theatrical musicals like Spring Awakening, the Broadway sensation that won him two Tony Awards and a GRAMMY®. As he explains this lengthy diversion now: “After a while you get boring to everyone else, but you get really bored with yourself. There was a moment where I was much more interested in these kind of longer narrative arcs, and being able to sing from the perspective of somebody else’s persona, as opposed to Duncan Sheik’s.”

His new album(s) splits the difference. Sheik makes his long-awaited return to singing stand-alone pop songs, but he hasn’t given up his recent habit of inhabiting characters. In this case, though, the characters are Morrissey, Robert Smith, Martin Gore, and David Sylvian. Duncan Sheik Covers '80s, released in 2011, features 12 of his highly personalized takes on the synth-pop era, including smashes and obscurities from the likes of the Cure, New Order, Tears for Fears, the Smiths, the Psychedelic Furs, the Thompson Twins, Love & Rockets, Howard Jones, Japan, Talk Talk, and the Blue Nile.

In this modern masterwork -- critically praised as a unique mix of Oscar Wilde and Bertolt Brecht -- the great Irish writer George Bernard Shaw pits a military industrialist against his crusading daughter. She's a Salvation Army major; he's an arms manufacturer and whiskey distiller -- on certain issues, they could not disagree more. But when he begins donating money to her organization, matters come to a head as the characters grapple with questions of business, faith, family and philanthropy. After 16 years, A.C.T. brings Shaw back to the stage with this co-production with Theatre Calgary, one of A.C.T.'s favorite Canadian collaborators, featuring an international cast of Canadian and American actors.

In his time, Rudolf Bauer was considered an even greater painter than his contemporary, Kandinsky. This production explores the power struggle and intrigue that caused this brilliant artist to disappear from the art world. Bauer has been in development at the San Francisco Playhouse since 2011, and will be our first World Premiere Commission on the mainstage!
