Porgy and Bess at Golden Gate Theatre. November 10 - December 8 2013

THE GERSHWIN MASTERPIECE

See what Time Magazine exclaims is, “A don’t miss theatre event! The #1 Broadway musical of the year.” Winner of the 2012 TONY AWARD® FOR BEST REVIVAL OF A MUSICAL, The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess is hitting the road with award-winning members of the Broadway cast in this stunning and stirring new staging. Accompanied by a lush 23-piece orchestra, this re-envisioned Broadway production includes such legendary songs as “Summertime,” “It Ain’t Necessarily So,” and “I Got Plenty of Nothing.”

The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess is set in Charleston’s fabled Catfish Row, where the beautiful Bess struggles to break free from her scandalous past, and the only one who can rescue her is the courageous Porgy. Threatened by her formidable former lover Crown, and the seductive enticements of the colorful troublemaker Sporting Life, Porgy and Bess’ relationship evolves into a deep romance that triumphs as one of theater’s most exhilarating love stories.

Stephen King's Bloody Classic Comes Back to Life in Carrie the Musical

The blood will flow once again during Carrie the Musical, a staged retelling of Stephen King's best-selling novel. A legendary flop on Broadway when it was produced in 1988, the show was rebuilt from the ground up by the show's original authors for a hit off-Broadway production, and now makes its West Coast premiere. You know the story: Outcast Carrie White is bullied by the popular kids and tormented by her overprotective mother, only to discover she has an inner power that has the potential to change everything. Experience this powerful work in a surprisingly effective new way with this evocative musical production that features a book by Lawrence D. Cohen (screenwriter of the classic 1976 film), music by Academy Award winner Michael Gore (Fame, Terms of Endearment) and lyrics by Academy Award winner Dean Pitchford (Fame, Footloose).

MEMORIAL DAY weekend AT "End UP"

INTO THE WOODS

Into The Woods

May 31st – June 29th, 2013

The Eureka Theatre (Jackson/Battery), San Francisco
Music and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim; Book by James Lapine
Directed by Eliza Leoni; Musical Direction by David Möschler

Into the Woods humorously combines a number of classic fairy tales into one hilarious, touching, over-arching narrative. A baker and his wife are assigned a number of tasks by a nearby witch; only after completing these duties will they be able to bear children. During their quest to fulfill the witches’ demands, they encounter Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, Cinderella and numerous other fairy tale figures. The traditional stories are parodied and altered at will, yet the original fairy tales’ sense of wonder and, at times, darkness remains intact. The score, winner of Broadway’s Tony Award, includes such songs as Children Will Listen, Giants in the Sky and No One Is Alone.
