A.C.T.'s acclaimed, music-infused adaptation of Dickens' beloved tale returns in a sumptuous production that's become one of the Bay Area's favorite holiday traditions. A large, lively cast tells the story of lonely old miser Ebenezer Scrooge, a bah-humbuggy sort who's shown a second chance by four ghosts who visit him one spooky and sleepless Christmas Eve. A classic story of redemption and forgiveness, A Christmas Carol captures the true spirit and magic of the holiday season, especially in this imaginative version written by A.C.T.'s own artistic director Carey Perloff and alumnus Paul Walsh.
TobyGo was created to support San Francisco's Events, Theatres and Night Life community – the people who own, promote, and attend the events that make our city sparkle. A lot of time and energy goes into making these events happen, and TobyGo recognizes the hard work that makes it possible for San Francisco to play as hard as it does. THE CHRISTIANS
By Lucas Hnath
Directed by Bill English
PLAY DETAILS
In just ten years, Pastor Paul’s modest ministry has grown into a massive megachurch, with thousands of believers coming through its doors each week. But as Paul wrestles with his own faith, he moves to preach a sermon that will shake the foundation of his congregation’s beliefs. Backed by a live choir, The Christians is both epic and intimate, an unflinching look at faith in America — and its power to unite or divide.

SHE LOVES ME at SFPlayHouse
A pair of feuding perfume shop employees don't realize that they're secretly and anonymously writing love letters to each other in the sentimental musical comedy She Loves Me. This charming, Tony Award-winning tale of cute but arrogant manager Georg and his spunky new clerk Amalia features music by Jerry Bock and lyrics by Sheldon Harnick -- the same pair that wrote the tunes for the Broadway classic Fiddler on the Roof. Produced on Broadway in 1963 and revived in 1993, the story is adapted from the play Parfumerie by Hungarian playwright Miklos Laszlo, which served as the inspiration for the films The Shop Around the Corner and You've Got Mail. Enjoy this production of She Loves Me at the San Francisco Playhouse.

HEDWIG and the ANGRY INCH with DARREN CRISS at Golden Gate Theatre
As a native of the Bay Area, Criss is thrilled to open the tour in front of hometown audiences. He explained, “When I found out that the tour would be kicking off in my hometown of San Francisco – the city where I was introduced to HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH – I could think of no better excuse to get back into the heels of a character I loved and missed so very much.”
Lena Hall will reprise her Tony Award®-winning performance as Yitzhak in the same production. In a groundbreaking twist, Hall will also play the role of Hedwig for one performance a week in San Francisco. It is a rare occasion for a Tony Award winner to go on national tour, and historic for the same person to play both Hedwig and Yitzhak.
Hall, thrilled at the opportunity to explore and express this double role, explains, “I’m thrilled to be returning to HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH performing not one, but two iconic roles in my hometown of San Francisco. Not only will I get to share the stage with my fellow San Francisco native and friend Darren Criss; but I will also get a chance to begin my own journey as the glam rock heroine Hedwig. To tell her story in my hometown is the greatest homecoming I can think of, and I am looking forward to sharing this journey with my friends, family, and Hedheads.”
Criss will appear as Hedwig in all performances, except Sunday, October 9 at 7pm and Wednesday evenings, October 12, 19 and 26 at 8pm. Hall will appear as Hedwig in the following performances: Sunday, October 9 at 7pm, Wednesday, October 12 at 8pm, Wednesday, October 19 at 8pm, and Wednesday, October 26 at 8pm.
The members of Hedwig’s band “The Angry Inch” — aka “Tits of Clay” — will be music director Justin Craig (guitar and keyboards), Matt Duncan (bass), Tim Mislock (guitar), and Peter Yanowitz (drums), all of whom originated their roles on Broadway.
Brilliantly innovative, heartbreaking, and wickedly funny, HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH is the landmark American musical by John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask that is “groundbreaking and undoubtedly ahead of its time” (Entertainment Weekly). This genre-bending, fourth-wall-smashing musical sensation, with a pulsing score and electrifying performances, tells the story of one of the most unique characters to ever hit the stage.
Directed by Tony Award® winner Michael Mayer (Spring Awakening) and winner of four 2014 Tony Awards® including Best Musical Revival, HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH played to record-breaking sell-out crowds on Broadway and promises to take San Francisco by storm with what Time Magazine proclaims is “the most exciting rock score written for the theatre since, oh, ever!”
